Showmanship competition forces contestants to use brains, bodies
ALEXANDRIA — Trying to keep a 1,000-pound cow from doing whatever it wants can be very tricky, especially in front of a judge and a large crowd. But that was the task of four contestants competing for the supreme showmanship prize at the Madison County 4-H Fair on Wednesday.

ALEXANDRIA — Cows took over the Madison County 4-H Fair Tuesday for the annual beef show. The show arena at the fairgrounds rang with the sound of cattle calls as young 4-H members walked, or dragged, their potential prize-winning cattle across the mulch-strewn floor.
