Sparks: Rail partnership a positive move for central Indiana

ANDERSON, Ind. — Anytime a delivery can be made by rail in a timely manner, it’s the best way to go, said Rob Sparks, executive director of the Anderson/Madison County Corporation for Economic Development.

Cost savings depend on what’s being shipped and delays along the way, so time savings equals cost savings.

For businesses in Anderson, Sparks said, a problem in the past has been congestion in Chicago rail yards. When the Indiana Rail Road company partners with Canadian National Railway July 1, Chicago will be bypassed. Imports and exports will travel between Indianapolis and the British Columbia ports of Vancouver and Prince Rupert.

Not only will the change be time and cost effective, but give central Indiana a competitive edge, Sparks said Sunday.
