9:30 p.m.: Anderson looks for budget solutions; layoffs or fees possible

By Aleasha Sandley, Herald Bulletin Staff Writer

The county can reconsider COIT in a year if it is unable to balance its budget.

In helping with the budget, the city discovered a $3.8 million amount from the state that had been sitting in a Public Employee Retirement Fund pension relief sub-account. The money can go toward police and fire pensions, easing some of the budget crunch.

By the numbers

• 2010 Anderson budget balances without COIT, fee increases or other action — General fund: -$5.1 million; Parks: $51,414; Airport: -$84,791; Police pension: $783,349, Fire pension: $817,579

• 2010 Anderson budget balance with a $8.75 per month trash pickup fee in 2009 and a $9.75 fee in 2010 — General fund: $5,747; Parks: $1,414; Airport: -$34,791; Police pension: $783,349; Fire pension: $817,579
