ANDERSON — Severe gusts of wind blew through Madison County about 4:30 p.m. Monday, knocking trees into power lines and across county roads.
One tree blew across County Road 300 North near Indiana Christian Academy.
“Everything was swirling around in a circle, debris, pieces of limbs,” said Mark Watts, owner of Mark’s Affordable Auto Repair, 320 W. 300 North. “I told everybody to roll inside. It was awesome to watch.”
Strong winds leveled a barn along 750 North, and several roads were blocked by downed trees. Anderson firefighters reported a tree on fire along Third Street, and a pole reportedly was on fire in the
2100 block of Euclid Drive.
The Fortville Fire Department responded to a call of an overturned boat that may have had youth in it; however, the boat had blown from a dock. There were no children in the boat, officials said. The report was at Summer Lakes near Ingalls.
At Anderson University, campus police reported large trees down on the campus’ east side and in Maple Wood Cemetery. One high school football player attending camp at the university was hit by a branch and another camper slipped in the rain. Neither boy was seriously injured.
