Missing Madison County teens found in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two teens who had been missing for more than two weeks have been found in Louisville, Ky.

Sixteen-year-old Alexis “Lexie” Clarkson and her boyfriend Austin McGuire, 18, had been missing since Jan. 9.

Clarkson had gone to school that morning, a Wednesday, and never came home.

McGuire’s mother said she left a list of chores for her son, a recent Frankton-Lapel Community School Corp. graduate, that morning before heading to work. She returned home to see he’d done his chores. But he had vanished, apparently also taking a tent and duffel and sleeping bags.

Local police had been searching for the teens since their disappearance.

Anderson police were handling Clarkson’s as a missing person, and the Madison County Sheriff’s Department was investigating McGuire, since his family doesn’t live in the city. Sheriff Ron Richardson said they’d been working the case as a joint effort.

He said the teens were located in Louisville, after Detective Brett Wright contacted the Louisville Metro Police Department missing persons’ division with a list of possible locations.

Richardson said LMPD officers found the teens, and called Wright at around 5 p.m. saying they’d taken Clarkson into custody.

Since he’s 18, McGuire was not taken into custody, but elected to stay with Clarkson.

Both teens’ parents are en route to Louisville to pick up their respective children.

McGuire won’t face charges, Richardson said, but Clarkson could be charged as a runaway.
