Pileup on I-65 kills 1, injures several

FRANKLIN, Ind. —  Indiana State Police say several vehicles have crashed in a pileup on Interstate 65 south of Indianapolis, closing the northbound lanes of the highway.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Rich Myers said Saturday that the crash involved several vehicles, including semitrailers. The pileup occurred near Franklin on the line between Johnson and Shelby counties south of Indianapolis.

Myers says the county coroner is on the scene and one person has been pronounced dead.

Johnson County authorities have told Indianapolis media that several people were injured, but Myers says he doesn't know how many were hurt.

Myers says both northbound lanes of I-65 have been closed.

I-65 is a major link between Indianapolis and Louisville, Ky.
