Anderson Police look to public for info on body

ANDERSON, Ind. — Police are still looking for more information about a body found in a rural area on the city’s northwest side on March 21.

According to a press release from Anderson Police Department spokesman Joel Sandefur, police now want help from the public to gather information about the death of Anthony Dewayne Brown, 34, of Lima, Ohio. Brown’s body was found behind some debris off Anderson-Frankton Road, killed by a single gunshot wound to the head. At the time the body was found, Anderson Chief of Police Larry Crenshaw said it appeared the body had been placed there by someone.

Police are still treating the incident as a homicide and the investigation is ongoing, Sandefur said.

After performing an autopsy of the body at Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Madison County Coroner Marian Dunnichay estimated Brown’s body had been there for three to five days.

Brown had been sought by police in Allen County, Ohio, since Nov. 30, 2011, for trafficking in cocaine, according to the Lima/Allen County Crimestoppers website.

According to public records, Brown pleaded to cocaine charges on more than one occasion in Allen County. There were court cases filed in October 2004, December 2004 and September 2006.

Police said a young girl had seen Brown’s body on Wednesday and told her father about it. When she told him about it again on Thursday afternoon, he went out to see for himself and then called police.

Sandefur asked anyone with knowledge of Brown or the incident that led to his death to contact APD detectives at (765) 648-6739.
