DALEVILLE, Ind. —
Two adults, including an Anderson woman, and a 12-year-old boy died following a one-vehicle accident near Daleville late Sunday afternoon. Three other youths were seriously injured.
The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on South Delaware County Road 600 West off Indiana 67, near the McIntire Concrete, Sand and Gravel.
Killed in the crash were driver Lisa H. Case, 46, of Anderson; Kent Kalley, 46, of Yorktown; and Andrew Lackey, 12, according to the Delaware County Coroner’s Office. Injured were Savanna Kalley, 13; Trace Joiner, 13; and Jessica DeLong, 13, the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department said.
Lt. Arlan Johnson of the Delaware County Sheriff’s office said Lackey and the injured youths were not all related, but neighborhood kids.
According to the preliminary investigation, Case’s sports utility vehicle was southbound on South 600 West when she went off the east side of the road after driving over a hill. She overcorrected and the SUV again left the roadway on the west side, traveled over a grassy hill, went airborne and then struck a large retaining wall, Johnson said.
The preliminary investigation suggests the SUV was moving in speeds excess of 70 mph.
Once the vehicle hit the wall, it rolled and landed upright but contorted on a pile of boulders, Johnson said. Several of the occupants were ejected from the SUV while others remained trapped.
Case and Lackey were pronounced dead at the scene by Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn while Kent Kalley was taken to Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie and later pronounced dead.
The injured children, all passengers in the back seat, were transported to three different hospitals: Ball Memorial, and Methodist Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
The Daleville Police Department, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Delaware Fire and EMS, Salem Township Fire and EMS, Delaware County Emergency Management Agency and Lifeline and StatFlight medical helicopter teams assisted.
The accident is still under investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department.
