INDIANAPOLIS — The newest member of the Indiana State Board of Education says he'll embark on a statewide fact-finding tour to learn more about the state of education in Indiana.
Indianapolis Democrat Gordon Hendry said Monday he'll begin the tour next month while the Republican-dominated board and Democratic State Schools Superintendent Glenda Ritz tussle over control of K-12 education issues. Ritz is suing the board.
Republican Gov. Mike Pence appointed Hendry as an at-large member of the board last month
Hendry says he'll meet with board members from all nine Congressional districts as well as teachers, students and parents from schools in each area. He says he'll document the tour online at OurIndianaSchools.com.
