Indiana Homeland Security officials are organizing Hoosiers’ participation in a multi-state earthquake-preparation drill next month.
The drill dubbed the “Great Central U.S. Shakeout” on Feb. 7 is one of several led by the University of Southern California’s Earthquake Center. At 10:15 a.m. that day, those participating in drills will be told to “drop, cover and hold on.”
Agency spokesman John Erickson tells The Indianapolis Star (http://indy.st/xXLgh5 ) that he hopes the drills will remind people that even in Indiana, an earthquake could be potentially devastating.
Erickson says more than 270,000 Indiana residents have registered to participate in ShakeOut activities so far. Individuals, businesses and public institutions like schools and libraries are encouraged to join as well.
