Postal inspectors uncover six pounds of marijuana

ANDERSON, Ind. — An Anderson man was being held at the Madison County Jail on Wednesday after police confiscated a package containing marijuana addressed to his residence.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were alerted of the package by U.S. Postal Inspectors on Monday. The package was shipped from McAllen, Texas, and addressed to Robert Wright, 35, of the 1900 block of Euclid Drive.

Inside the package, officers found 6.2 pounds of marijuana.

Postal investigators Tom Henderson and Doug Biel, working alongside the Madison County Drug Task Force, delivered the package to Wright’s residence at 11:39 a.m. Tuesday. Minutes later, after police were signaled that Wright had opened the package, officers entered the home and arrested him.

Postal inspectors advised police that they had intercepted a similar package in November 2011, also addressed to Wright.

Wright was transported to the Madison County Jail, and was preliminary charged with Class D felonies possessing marijuana with the intent to deal and maintaining a common nuisance. He was being held on a $5,000 bond.
