Official: 1 missing after Ind. home explodes

LOWELL, Ind. — A person is missing after an explosion leveled one home and damaged a nearby residence in Lowell.

The Times of Munster reports firefighters were called just after 7 p.m. Monday to the 100 block of East 181st Avenue.

Lowell Fire Chief Clint Gorball says that when emergency responders arrived on the scene, one home was leveled with debris scattered as far as 75 yards away and a nearby house was engulfed in flames.

Gorball says the missing person is a neighbor who was watching the house at the time. Gorball says one firefighter suffered a knee injury and that another firefighter also might have been injured fighting the blaze.

Officials were investigating the cause of the fire.
