Rep. Ellsworth to support health overhaul

INDIANAPOLIS — Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Ellsworth says he'll vote for the health care overhaul legislation that the U.S. House is expected to consider this weekend.

The conservative southern Indiana Democrat said Friday he will support the bill and states that in his "core" he believes it will benefit Indiana residents.

Ellsworth had been under pressure from groups on both sides of the health care overhaul debate as the vote on the proposed $940 billion health bill nears.

Ellsworth opposes abortion but says the bill meets his principles and upholds the policy of no federal funding for elective abortions.

The two-term Democrat is now running for the Senate seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Sen. Evan Bayh.
