Man leads police on 111-mph chase on I-70

NEW CASTLE, Ind. — State police say a central Indiana man faces multiple charges after leading a trooper on a chase that reached 111 mph.

Police say Trooper Doug Snyder clocked a westbound Chevrolet Malibu going that fast about 7:30 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 70 near New Castle. As Snyder began pursuit, the chase continued at 111 mph for about 20 miles until stop sticks flattened the Malibu's tires and the car left the road, crash through a fence and continued for nearly half a mile into a plowed farm field.

Police say 26-year-old Brian Baran of Whiteland in Johnson County was arrested on charges of fleeing police, criminal recklessness and reckless driving. He was being held Sunday at the Henry County Jail in New Castle. It wasn't clear whether he had an attorney.
