Colts break camp, head for home

ANDERSON, Ind. — Adam Vinatieri made a 51-yard field goal just before noon Friday and sent the Indianapolis Colts home early from training camp at Anderson University.

“It’s awesome when Vinny makes field goals to win games or send us home the right way,” quarterback Andrew Luck said. “We’ll miss Anderson. It’s always good to us up here. We get great work up here. But, yeah, it’s a good end to camp to have Vinny kick that field goal.”

Vinatieri’s kick ended a three-week stay that begin when Reggie Wayne landed in an IU Health Life Line helicopter on the intramural fields at AU on July 27.

In between the Colts held 15 public practices, drawing more than 37,000 fans. The largest crowd came on Aug. 6, when more than 8,000 people attended the camp’s lone night practice.

It was the fourth straight summer in Anderson for the team, and head coach Chuck Pagano appreciated the hospitality.

“I thought we had a great camp,” he said. “The first thing I want to do is thank the fans, thank everybody here in Anderson. They did a phenomenal job. We couldn’t have been able to accomplish the things we got accomplished without the support of everybody here.”
