KOKOMO, Ind. — A judge has entered not guilty pleas for a man charged with killing his former girlfriend and two others in central Indiana.

Thirty-year-old Jeremy Blanchard of Gas City made an initial appearance by video conference before a Howard County judge Wednesday. The judge granted Blanchard's request for a public defender.

Blanchard is charged in the April 8 stabbing deaths of his ex-girlfriend, 28-year-old Jessica Berg, and her mother, 57-year-old Rebecca Berg. The Gas City women were in Kokomo to attend a funeral and were staying with David McPike, who had been dating Rebecca Berg and was also killed.

Blanchard has been jailed since his April 9 arrest in Kentucky on Grant County warrants for probation violation and intimidation.

Howard County prosecutors plan to seek a sentence of life without parole.
