Irsay gives to award named for Indy blast victims

GREENWOOD, Ind. — A memorial scholarship in the name of a teacher and her husband killed in an Indianapolis house explosion has drawn its first donation from Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay.

WISH-TV and WRTV-TV reported Thursday that Irsay had kicked off donations to the Jennifer and Dion Longworth Memorial Award at Southwest Elementary School in Greenwood. The amount of his donation wasn't disclosed.

The parent-teacher organization at the school started the award. Jennifer Longworth taught second grade there, and her classroom was decorated in blue and white, the Colts' team colors. She and her husband died in the Nov. 10 explosion.

Over its first 10 years, the $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one of her former students once they graduate from Greenwood High School.
