Girl dies after car goes into river near Seymour

SEYMOUR, Ind. — Indiana conservation officers say one teenager died but two others escaped after the car they were riding in plunged into the East Fork of the White River near Seymour.

Officers say the crash occurred Wednesday afternoon on a Jackson County road a few miles southeast of the southern Indiana city. They say after a wrecker pulled the vehicle from the river, 17-year-old Brooke Hawn of Seymour was found dead inside. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Officers say two males, ages 18 and 19, were able to escape the submerged vehicle through broken windows and called 911.
