Body found in Alexandria identified

ALEXANDRIA, Ind. — The body of a 44-year-old Alexandria area woman was found just before 1:30 p.m. Sunday in a wooded area near her home off of County Road 200 West between Indiana 28 and 1300 North, Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson said.

Coroner Ned Dunnichay said foul play is not suspected in the death of Anita M. Lamb. The cause of death though is pending autopsy results and toxicology tests that could take a few weeks. Dunnichay said her body had been in the area for about 24 hours.

The woman’s boyfriend of more than 15 years was on the scene when police arrived after the call of the body being found, Richardson said. The man told investigators that she was last seen Friday night when she left to take a walk, something she often did, Richardson said.

The Sheriff’s Department didn’t receive a missing person’s report for Lamb.

Richardson said family told investigators that it wasn’t uncommon for Lamb to be in the area where she was found.

“We are keeping the family members in our thoughts and prayers,” Richardson said. “We want to focus on gathering all the facts and are working with the coroners office.”
