Marsh to close two Muncie stores, six others

INDIANAPOLIS — Marsh Supermarket officials announced today that they will close seven stores in Indiana -- including two in Muncie -- and one in Ohio by the end of January.

The Muncie stores to close are at 3910 W. West Bethel Ave. and 3705 S. Madison St. The other stories slated for closure include two in Indianapolis (2802 Lafayette Road and 5249 Thompson Road), one in Franklin, one in Lebanon, one in Speedway and one in Franklin, Ohio.

Officials of the Fishers-based company attributed the closings to a shrinking customer base and, in some cases, cited expiring leases. They said the closures are part of an overarching plan to bring all stores under the Marsh brand and to renovate existing stores.

Marsh, owned by Florida-based Sun Capital, operates 62 Marsh Supermarkets and three O'Malia's Food Markets in Indiana and Ohio. Marsh also owns 25 MainStreet Markets in Ohio.
