The U.S. Small Business Administration will present a free webinar on "How Small Businesses Can Gain Competitive Advantage through HUBZone Certification" at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17.

The webinar, the second in a two-part series, will focus on how Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Zone-affiliated businesses are treated, joint ventures, and HUBZone contracting requirements.

Small business owners will learn:

— How to form joint ventures

— How to survive HUBZone status protests to contracts

— How to compete for HUBZone contracts

— How affiliated businesses are evaluated

— How to obtain HUBZone contracting requirements.

Mariana Pardo, director of the HUBZone program, will have a Q&A session at the end of the presentation.

The mission of the SBA’s HUBZone program is to promote job growth, capital investment, and economic development by providing contracting opportunities to small businesses located in economically distressed communities.

The federal government has a mandated contracting goal to award three percent of federal contracts to HUBZone firms. In fiscal year 2012, HUBZone firms received more than $8 billion in federal contracts.
