Jesse Wilkerson: Seasons change

I ran across a combination of words that intrigued me. The words made me think about the seasons of life. They read, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up.” Ecclesiastes 3: 1-3

Seasons change. Life has many constants and one of them is the fact that there are seasons that we all go through. One of the most challenging things in life is to be within a season in your life and miss the season entirely. It is the reality of thinking you are somewhere that you are not or being somewhere in time and not maximizing the moment. I am not talking about the weather, but just like calendar seasons there are shifts and changes in life that usher in new moments and fresh opportunities and help us eliminate dead things as well.

One of the definitions of season is “a proper or suitable time.” There are seasons of concentrated education (schooling), personal realization, innovation and ingenuity, birthing of career or ideas, planting and investing, harvesting and receiving. Whatever the season is the ability to be cognizant is a valuable component to living a successful life. Just as important as knowing the season of life that you are in at the moment is knowing when any given season has changed.

If you are spending when you should be investing you are acting and making decisions in the wrong season. The more mature/ older I become the more I value the season of planting seed. It is an immediate access point to my future. Though the fruit of my labor isn’t witnessed immediately it is a time where I manipulate and control where I want to go by investing in my future. Each seed I plant with devoting my time, effort and attention is guaranteed a yield in another season. If I don’t like the season I am in life I intentionally and purposefully aim to prepare for the next season by adjusting my seed.
