ANDERSON, Ind. — Don’t be surprised this New Year’s Eve if there’s a long line at the reopening of the McDonald’s restaurant along Broadway.

The first 100 people who walk through the door when the facility opens at 6 a.m. Tuesday will receive a free Big Mac sandwich each week for a year.

The restaurant, 2830 Broadway, closed Oct. 2, and the building was torn down on Oct. 7 to make way for a remodeled facility. McDonald’s had planned to reopen the Broadway location in early January, but construction finished ahead of schedule.

Ken Phillips, director of operations for Terhune Inc., the company that owns the McDonald’s on Broadway, said that Tuesday morning might be a little busy.

“This is the first time we have offered something like this in Anderson, but the first 100 guests — no purchase necessary — will receive a free Big Mac a week for one year.”

The remodeled restaurant offers a 24-hour, two-lane drive-through. The dining room area will be open 4 a.m. to midnight daily. Phillips said the additional hours will require at least 15 new employees and possibly more hires in the future.

Unlike the previous McDonald’s along Broadway, the new building will lack a play area for children. But there will be televisions in the dining area, Phillips said.

In addition to the free Big Macs, the Broadway location will offer daily specials through Jan. 25. The specials will include items like buy one/get one free, discounts on beverages and $1 Happy Meals with the purchase of a value meal or salad.

“We are really excited to get it open,” Phillips said.
