December home sales in county see big year-end gain

ANDERSON, Ind. — Last month, Madison County home sales spiked 50 percent over the same time in 2011.

That’s according to statistics released Tuesday by F.C. Tucker Company, which said the county saw the largest increase of the nine Central Indiana counties it tracks with 87 pended home sales, up from 58 the year before.

Six of those nine counties saw gains in December, extending a 20-month upward trend.

In a release, Jim Litten, president of F.C. Tucker, said the company is “excited to see the year end on a positive note.”

“For 20 straight months, existing home sales have shown month-to-month improvement,” he said. “We’re optimistic low interest rates and affordable prices will continue to fuel the trend as we begin 2013 as well.”

Central Indiana totaled 1,490 pending home sales in December 2012, an increase of 162 over December 2011.

For the year, home sales in Central Indiana were up 17.3 percent. Sales prices were also up 2.8 percent, with the year’s average hitting $155,879.
