ANDERSON, Ind. —
Dennis Albert likes to help his clients reinvent themselves.
“It’s really great when you see someone work hard, then get rewarded for it,” said Albert, who owns Anytime Fitness gyms in Muncie and Anderson with his wife, Lillian. Sometimes, that’s by building muscle, getting healthier or dropping 10, 20 or even 100 pounds.
But now, it’s the Anderson gym, in Applewood Centre, that’s being reinvented.
In less than a week, the Alberts pulled off a massive overhaul that’s added more high-tech fitness gear, a new color scheme and 1,000 square feet of floor space.
“It looks like a whole new club,” Albert said. “We’ve had members come in and look around to be sure they’re in the right place.”
The club’s redesign comes courtesy of New Jersey fitness club design experts Fabio Designs, which set out to “re-energize and evolve the workout areas” via a combination of color and reorganization, said design director Rudy Fabiano.
The club still has traces of Anytime Fitness’ trademark purple, but is now set against colors of a softer, more natural palette. The 5,200-square-foot gym floor has also been reorganized, which Albert said more clearly defines major exercise areas.
There’s also a new feature he calls the ‘inspiration wall,’ where members can post articles, quotes and anything else to motivate their workouts. One member recently lost 100 pounds and posted photos of herself before and after — “the best kind of inspiration,” Albert said.
Anytime Fitness operates more than 1,400 clubs across the U.S. and in 12 other countries. Combined, they have nearly 1 million members.
Albert likes to think he’s helping get those members fit, so they can enjoy life to its fullest.
“The whole point (of exercise) is that, instead of being a spectator, you can be a participant,” he said. “That you can get out there and actually play the game instead of watching from the stands.”
