Arthur C. Nielsen, a Chicago native, was an engineer who progressively advanced his career in engineering to full-blown market research. His research involved market studies that measured statistical sales through research sampling. What he essentially developed was a way to evaluate information that would directly have an impact on a product or a services sale prior to being taken to market to serve the masses. His research has proven incredibly informative in the arena of television and radio. You and I know his body of work as the Nielsen ratings or the Nielsen report.
According to the Nielsen survey, U.S. households watch just over 30 hours of television a week. The report also states, “Television is becoming more than a passive watching device.” With this much time vested (almost the equivalent to a work week) in consumption of entertainment, drama, news and the like, is there any wonder why we are seeing some of the things we see today being developed?
Vision can relate to that of a natural connotation. It can also be viewed as related to perception of the future. In relation to the latter, vision is something few people are actually gifted with possessing. We call these people visionaries. They are people who have a working knowledge of the present and see how to manipulate it with their vision of the future to affect whatever it is they are doing.
All vision comes from the inside of us. It is a byproduct of input that impregnates us with ideas that give birth to action items that make their way into our world in a tangible sense. How do you and I get pregnant with a vision to do anything? We begin by taking a look at the world we live in and think of how to make it better. We invest our time, energy and focus with information related to the topic or area in which we want to have the most impact or generate ideas.
