---- — PENDLETON— After more than 10 years in the community, Dollar General is changing its address.
The store, located at 1 Plaza Drive in Pendleton, will be relocating to Indiana 67 less than a quarter of a mile from its current address. Town Manager Doug McGee said the company has been searching for about two years for a new location in the community that offers better visibility.
The new building will be 7,500 square feet, which is just slightly larger than the store’s current 6,600-square-foot facility. McGee said the documentation on file with the town indicates the new building will be ready for occupation in 90 days.
“They broke ground about two weeks ago and they have the footers poured,” McGee said. “They have a very aggressive schedule for construction and plan to be open this fall.”
Jaclyn Dees, a spokeswoman for Dollar General, said the relocation might take a little longer.
“That would be fantastic, but that is not what our system shows,” she said.
Dees said the company’s timeline shows the store being relocated in late 2013 or early 2014. Once the company relocates, she said, there will be a grand opening with $10 Dollar General gift cards given to the first 100 shoppers.
Dollar General markets itself as a convenience store with limited food items, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies and basic apparel. Dees said customers can stop in and make a purchase in less than 10 minutes unlike bigger box stores where consumers can spend more than 40 minutes making the same purchase.
She said on average Dollar General employs approximately six to 10 people per location and those interested in employment with the company should go to the Career section at www.dollargeneral.com.
“We may need a few new people after the move,” she said.
