Community Anderson breaks ground on new health center

ANDERSON, Ind. — Community Hospital Anderson is breaking ground today on a new health pavilion.

The $6.1 million, 33,000-square-foot pavilion will house the hospital’s medical oncology services, an outpatient infusion center and lab in addition to several physician offices including Community Physician Network Pediatric Care and Community Physician Network Internal Medicine Care.

Community Anderson will hold the public groundbreaking ceremony tonight at 5 p.m., at 1629 Medical Arts Blvd., at the hospital’s campus on Madison Avenue.

The pavilion will improve patient care, said CHA President Beth Tharp, by providing private rooms for patients undergoing chemotherapy, and an infusion center for outpatients needing medication for chronic conditions such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis.

“Currently, patients requiring this type of treatment are cared for in the hospital,” she said. “Moving the services and care to the new facility will allow patients to receive their needed medication without having to navigate through the hospital.”

The hospital expects to complete work by February 2014.

Community Health Network, which owns Community Anderson, operates several similar health pavilions, spread among its over 200 Central Indiana sites and affiliates.

The goal is to consolidate multiple care services into one building, said Tharp, and “bring together our providers in a way that increases access to high quality care delivery in a patient friendly-design.”

The medical oncology portion of the building is funded by the hospital’s foundation, via a financial gift from the Jack and Barbara Farquer estate.

In honor of Barbara Farquer, who volunteered at Community Anderson before her death in 1997, the Farquers’ gift will be listed on a donor wall near the main entrance of the medical oncology office.
