Hamburger High to close again

ANDERSON, Ind. — After less than two months, Hamburger High is closing again.

The burger eatery, 21 W. 38th St., is known best for its nostalgic high school theme, with walls covered in antique lunch boxes, lockers and ’50s-era music.

It reopened last month under new ownership, after previous owners Diana and Tim Basey shuttered it in January, citing the rising cost of ingredients, including rising beef prices brought on by last summer’s drought.

New owner Jeff O’Connor, of Greentown, bought the restaurant after finding it listed on Craigslist and held a grand reopening April 5 and 6, intent on streamlining service and cutting prices where he could.

O’Connor said then he’d always dreamed of having a restaurant. He’d never owned one, but had managed several during his 15 years in food service.

Now, less than two months after reopening, the store is set to close again on May 25.

O’Connor declined to comment on why, saying only, “I tried.”
