Charles A. Darr, 78, Anderson, died June 28, 2006, at Community Hospital, Anderson, after an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Bryant, Ill., and lived in Anderson since the early 1950s.

He was employed by Emge for 37 1/2 years. He served in the U.S. Army as a teletype operator in the Pacific from 1944-46. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 266, a 33-year member of the American Legion and a 35-year member of the Red Men Lodge. He was past Great Sachem of Indiana, past representative of the Great Council of US, and Eagles Lodge trustee for three years.

Survivors include seven children, Charlene (husband, Larry) Thompson of Florida, Steve Darr of Florida, Lucy (husband, Mark) Derexson of Anderson, Phyllis Cummings of Chesterfield, Linda Fairchild and Derrell of Anderson, Barbara (husband, Steven) Nemyer of Anderson, and Dianna Stephenson of Anderson; daughter-in-law, Melodee Darr of Anderson; 27 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Denny Darr and wife Carolyn of Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis L. Darr in 2003; a son, James Darr; grandchildren, Missy and Shawn; and two sisters, Sarah Hughes and Joan Dennis.

Services will be conducted at noon Saturday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be two hours before service Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital or Make A Wish Foundation.

Military rites will be conducted at the gravesite by VFW 266. The Red Men Lodge will perform a memorial service at noon Saturday, just prior to the funeral service

Arrangements are being handled by Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
