AU women post first win

The Anderson University women's basketball team defeated Old Westbury 71-60 in the consolation game of the Lehman College Classic Tournament on Sunday in the Bronx, N.Y.

Cori Connor led the Ravens with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, hitting 9 of 14 field goals.

Jenna Wittenberg had 11 points, 12 rebounds and two assists, making 4 of 15 shots. She was named to the All-Tournament team after scoring a team-high 20 points in the opener.

Mallory King had 16 points and three assists, hitting 8 of 14 field goals, and Shelby Shaffer was also in double figures with 14 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals.

Nyomi Defield chipped in with seven points and five rebounds.

AU shot 45 percent from the field, including 55 in the second half as they outscored Old Westbury 41-26. Old Westbury finished at 32 percent shooting, including 23 in the second half.

The Ravens had a 48-32 advantage on the boards, including 18-13 on the offensive glass. AU also had the edge in points in the paint (24-22), assists (15-12), points off turnovers (15-12) and second-chance points (17-12).

AU (1-9) travels to Transylvania on Saturday at 2 p.m.
