Franklin sweeps Ravens

FRANKLIN — The Anderson University men's basketball team lost to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Franklin College 62-60 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at the Spurlock Center.

It was the second straight game the Ravens have lost in overtime as they fell at Rose-Hulman on Wednesday.

Max Mollaun led the Ravens with 22 points and four rebounds, hitting 8-of-15 field goals and both of his free throws, including four 3-pointers.

Nathaniel Acree was also in double figures with 13 points, three rebounds and three blocks. Micah Smith added nine points, seven rebounds three assists and Brett Anderson chipped in with eight points.

Nate Gross topped both teams with 14 rebounds to go with two points, three assists and three blocks.

Anderson shot 43 percent from the field in the game, but was 0-for-4 in the overtime period as they scored just two Mollaun free throws. The Ravens were 9-of-21 from 3-point range, but just 5-of-10 from the free throw line, including 0-for-2 in 1-and-1 situations in the final minutes.

Franklin finished at 38 percent shooting, including just 1-of-8 in the extra session. The Grizzlies were just 3-of-10 from 3-point range, but 19-of-25 from the free throw line.

Both teams finished with 35 rebounds and the Ravens had the advantage in assists (13-11) and points off turnovers (12-10). Franklin had the edge in points in the paint (32-20), turnovers (10-14), second chance points (11-7) and steals (9-4).

AU (4-15, 4-8 HCAC) hosts Defiance on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Women's Basketball

Franklin 74, Anderson 50: Shelby Shaffer led the Ravens with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals, hitting 5-of-13 field goal, including a pair of 3-pointers.

Cori Connor was also in double figures with 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three steals. Sabrina Yeary chipped in with six points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Anderson shot 32 percent from the field, including 4-of-16 from 3-point range and 16-of-24 from the free throw line. Franklin finished at 54 percent shooting, including 5-of-12 from behind the arc and 11-of-17 from the charity stripe.

The Grizzlies had a 36-29 advantage on the boards and also had the edge in points in the paint (42-12), assists (17-10) and points off turnovers (20-16) while the Ravens had the lead in second chance points (8-2) and steals (12-11).

AU (2-17, 1-11 HCAC) travels to Defiance on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
