INDIANAPOLIS — Cyesha Goree scored 18 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had five assists as the seventh-seeded Michigan (18-12) women rolled past No. 10 seed Indiana (18-11), 82-57, in the opening round of the Big Ten tournament on Thursday.

Indiana (18-12) jumped out to a 7-2 lead but Michigan responded with a 30-8 run and took a 43-28 advantage into the break. Milika Taufa’s layup with 9:50 to play pulled the Hoosiers within 10 before the Wolverines scored 12 straight to put the game away. Alexis Gassion led Indiana, which shot 26 percent from 3-point range and 29 percent from the free-throw line, with 12 points.

Ohio State 86, Northwestern 77

Ameryst Alston scored 30 points and Darryce Moore and Martina Ellerbe had double-doubles as eighth-seeded Ohio State (16-17) pulled away in the closing minutes on Thursday to defeat ninth-seeded Northwestern (15-15).

Alston, who finished one point shy of matching her career-high, broke a 73-73 tie with a layup with 1:53 to play. Ellerbe followed with a steal that was turned into her 3-pointer at the 1:24 mark and, after a Northwestern miss, Alston made two free throws for an 80-72 lead with 51 seconds remaining.

Ellerbe finished with 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for the Buckeyes (16-17), who face top-seeded and 11th-ranked Penn State (22-6) today.

Iowa 81, Illinois 62

Bethany Doolittle scored a career-high 26 points, hitting 10 of 14 shots, as fifth-seeded and 23rd-ranked Iowa defeat Illinois.
