ANDERSON — The Anderson University softball team, fresh off winning the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference season and tournament titles, Monday morning learned of its next hurdle.
The Ravens will play in the NCAA Division III Regionals beginning Friday against Fontbonne at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Ill.
AU (29-7) plays at 11 a.m. against Fontbonne (34-5). AU defeated the Griffins 4-1 in the season opener.
In the other first-round matchup Friday at 1:30 p.m., Illinois Wesleyan (37-5) faces Lake Forest (26-8). Friday’s winners play at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by a game pitting Friday’s losers against one another. The loser of Saturday’s first game tangles with the winner of Saturday’s second game in a 4 p.m. contest Saturday.
Either one or two championship games will be played Sunday starting at noon.
Anderson will be making its fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Div. III National Tournament, including its second trip to Illinois Wesleyan in the last three years. The Ravens are making the program’s seventh trip to the NCAA Tournament.
