AU roundup: Raven women take second, men third in track invite

ANDERSON, Ind. — The Anderson University women’s track and field team finished second in the six-team Raven Invitational on Saturday at Macholtz Stadium. The Raven men were third in the meet.

Shantol McMahon led the women with top-five finishes in the shot put (2nd, 36-4 1/4) and high jump (3rd, 130-1) and was sixth in the javelin (88-0) and seventh in the discus (101-7).

Other top-five finishers for the women were Rachel Grubbs in the 200 meters (2nd), Deborah Gardner in the 100 meters (3rd) and 200 meters (3rd), Margo Sinclair in the 5,000 meters (3rd), Dionna Burden in the 400 meters (4th), Maddie Baxter in the 800 meters (4th), Casey Gillespie in the 5,000 meters (4th), Janell Bender in the 1,500 meters (4th), Melissa Green in the shot put (4th) and Sarah Warren in the long jump (4th).

Max Kittle led the men with a pair of victories in the 110 hurdles (15.81) and the 400 hurdles (56.43). Neal Tardy also won the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:24.

Brad McNeil had a pair of top-five finishes in the 400 hurdles (2nd, 56.46) and 110 hurdles (2nd, 17.32).

Other top five finishers in the running events were Sam Bayliss in the 800 meters (2nd), Eric Linn in the 5,000 meters (2nd), Nick Moyer in the 400 meters (3rd), Ryan Saylor in the 5,000 meters (3rd), Davis Thompson in the 5,000 meters (5th), Patrick Smith in the 1,500 meters (5th) and Cameron Mason in the 400 meters (5th).

Top-five finishers in the field events were Joe Daubenspeck in the high jump (2nd), Caleb Collier in the shot put (3rd), Kyle Miles in the long jump (3rd) and Daubenspeck in the long jump (5th)

Bethel won the women’s team title with 297 points. Anderson finshed with 82 followed by Earlham (34), Thomas More (31), Trine (18) and IU East (18).

Bethel also took the men’s title with 184 points. Thomas more was second with 134 followed by Anderson (118), Earlham (54), IU East (41) and Trine (24).

AU runs in the NCAA Div. III meet next Saturday at Franklin College.
