Pagano hopes Luck plays more against Giants

ANDERSON, Ind. — With just two practices remaining in training camp at Anderson University, Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano turned his mind toward Sunday’s second preseason game at the New York Giants following today’s morning walkthrough.

Asked how long he expects second-year quarterback Andrew Luck to play in that contest, Pagano gave a quick reply.

“Longer,” he said. “He needs to play longer.”

How much longer? Perhaps the entire first half.

Pagano said he’d like to see the quarterback play at least 25-30 snaps, and it would be a bonus if he can get into a two-minute drill situation the way Buffalo did at the end of the first half last week.

Luck’s playing time will depend in part, however, on the offense’s success. If the team comes out with two or three long drives to open the game, the quarterback could be removed from the field before halftime.

The Colts have a public practice at 1:50 p.m., and camp breaks following a 10:30 a.m. open practice Friday.
