Bradshaw ready to run with Colts

(Continued)

"I've always considered that, and I guess we'll let the coach and the coaching staff decide that factor," Bradshaw said. "With me, I feel that I can touch the ball every down and be effective."

He's also one of the league's best running backs in pass protection. The advanced stats website Pro Football Focus rated Bradshaw as the league's No. 1 blocking back in 2012, and he's never finished lower than third during his NFL career.

That doesn't mean he can't be just as productive with the ball in his hand.

Despite being limited to 14 games and 12 starts by the foot injury, Bradshaw gained 1,105 yards on 221 carries and scored six touchdowns last year. All three numbers would have been team highs for the Colts.

"Like we always say, iron sharpens iron like man sharpens man," Pagano said. "Every acquisition that we've made, either through free agency, the draft, you name it, we just try to create competition at every position. So the guys that we have, they won't flinch because they've got great character. They got the right mindset. They're great competitors. They're horseshoe guys. This guy, he's another horseshoe guy. Get us one step closer to hoisting that trophy."

Bradshaw knows what it's like to celebrate a championship in Indianapolis. Now he'd like to see what it feels like to celebrate a championship with Indianapolis.

"Any team that gets to the playoffs has a chance," Bradshaw said. "With these guys being young, with Andrew Luck growing every year, last year coming in the league and proving what he can do, I think this team has great potential to be a contender. That's also a big reason why Indiana was my choice."

Bjoern Werner's rookie training camp was rather quiet. The German-born outside linebacker went through individual drills and worked hard in full-team sessions, but he was overwhelmed by all the new information he was processing. And it was holding him back. When the season started, Werner was further set back by a foot injury that cost him three games, and he finished the year with just 2.5 sacks. Then the former Florida State star went to work.
