Verna Davis: Everything is possible, even spring

I don’t know if you’ve noticed it or not, but people are starting to get, well, umm, how can I say it gracefully? People are starting to get grouchy. And that makes me kinda grouchy, too.

What’s the reason for all this grouch? Well, duh. Look outside. The grouch is lying all around you. On your car. On your sidewalk. On the roof of your house. In the parking lot. piled into little hills at the end of your driveway. Piled into bigger hills at the edges of your street. Piled into mountains in the middle of the parking lots.

I mean, I like snow. I really do. Snow makes all things look clean and pure and reminds us that though our sins are scarlet, God can wash us as white as snow. I’ve even enjoyed being snowed in. It’s nice to slow down a bit and stay hunkered in with plenty of iced tea, good books, warm blankies and the one you love beside you. Like I said, I like snow. I really do.

But, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Hopefully, by the time I finish this column, send it to The Herald Bulletin and the Tribune-Star so they can type and proof and print and deliver it to you this morning, some of the snow will be melted away. Who knows, by the time you finish reading this, you might even be able to see some patches of ground. Remember what dormant grass looks like? Wouldn’t it be nice to see some of that brown scraggly stuff about right now?

I don’t know much, but I do know this. Spring follows winter. It never fails. The robin currently sitting in the tree outside my window assures me that spring is coming. That gives me hope.
