Maleah Stringer: Have room in your home and heart? Rescue a pet

On October 18 Hoosier Park hosted a volunteer appreciation event for us. It was lovely; they treated us with kindness and generosity. Not to mention we had been chosen as a Hoosier Park charity recipient and received two sizable checks. This money will make such a difference to the animals we care for in our shelter and our programs. Thank you, Hoosier Park.

Grace, the youngest of the two emaciated dogs that the Anderson Police Department brought to us as strays last week, is doing well. She spent over a week at Devonshire Veterinary Clinic getting stabilized and went to a wonderful foster home on October 21. She has gained four pounds. Unfortunately the poor dog she came in with did not was not as lucky. She passed that night at Devonshire. It was too late for her.

After all this little puppy has been through she is nothing but exuberant and joyful. She loves to get and give affection. She is the epitome of forgiveness and unconditional love. Grace is simply that, full of grace.

Several of our long time feline residents have found homes. Sunny who has been with us since February went to the 9 Lives shelter cat prison program and is being adopted by her handler when he is released from prison.

Rocky, is a little six-year-old Chihuahua turned in by his owner a couple of weeks ago. She said it was because he was going to the bathroom all over the house and biting. Rocky was not neutered and did not know how to walk on a leash. Rocky stayed with me for a week and I found the little guy to be lovely. He found a home with Rhonda Estes who is the "chichi whisperer." Lucky little dog.

Dominique, our beautiful dog who was adopted and brought back, went to a rescue and is now in a foster home and doing well. Dominique did not like to be in a crate, she broke out and caused much destruction in her new owners' home. She even went so far as to chew her way through a door and was lost for several hours. Dominique is now living with a retired couple who stay home a lot.
