We learned last week that The Herald Bulletin was selected Newspaper of the Year for 2013 among the large newspapers in our company, Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.

CNHI has papers in more than 130 communities across the country, so the award is significant. It's the third time since 2004 that we've had the distinction.

Judging was based on three issues that we submitted from 2013. Judges looked for special reporting on news topics, quantity and quality of coverage in news, sports, features and opinion, and organization and design.

We were also thrilled that our website was selected runner-up in its category. And Phil Miller, who works in the design center in our newsroom, took runner-up in Designer of the Year judging.

Congratulations to The Herald Bulletin staff and to Phil and the design center!
