The Herald Bulletin
---- — I am constantly reading that thousands of baby boomers are retiring each day. Do you have one day a week that you could help us make a difference in lives of thousands of struggling people? We are looking for volunteers willing to come and pick orders from our inventory for distribution to our agencies and programs.
If we had one person each day to help us get the food ready, we would be better positioned to help meet the growing need we are facing. You don’t think you could do it? You might be surprised. We don’t need speedy people as much as we need accurate people. It would entail picking up boxes from pallets and placing them on another pallet being assembled for delivery. The average box probably weighs about 20 pounds. The boxes range from around 5 pounds to 30 pounds. It’s a great way to stay active, keep a positive outlook, be of service to so many who are struggling these days and work with a bunch of great people.
We are also looking for people with driving experience. If you have a Class A or B commercial driver’s License or a chauffeur’s license, we could use your help one day a week as well. We have trucks available for you to use, even if we have to rent one. Most of our loads are refrigerated and can be completed in less than half a day. If you prefer to have a set local route, we have it. If you would like a little more variety, we have pickups to make when we get a phone call and need people who could drive one of our trucks when we get that call. One of our current part-time drivers told me that he has improved his health by coming to work here. He has lost 40 pounds and has reduced or eliminated some of his health issues. He says he feels better than he has felt in many years and he knows he is helping a lot of people.
What about office work? We can use someone in this area as well. We have phones to answer, mail to process, computer entry work to do. Want to step up the level to match your experience? Maybe you are a retired industrial engineer? We have processes, procedures and metrics that need to be analyzed and documented. We need people to work with our fundraisers to plan and execute a full calendar of activities. We have lots of development ideas that need people to help bring them to reality. If you are passionate about our mission and have experience in public speaking, we need representatives, (ambassadors) who can attend and represent us at meetings throughout our eight-county region. We struggle with our small staff and having so many opportunities to partner with people and organizations that are working on important programs in all the communities we serve.
We have something for just about everybody. Contact us at 765-287-8698 or at firstname.lastname@example.org and let’s work together.
