ANDERSON, Ind. — An Anderson man charged in the county’s second homicide this year will remain in jail until his trial, said magistrate Stephen Clase.

Dressed in jailhouse black-and-white striped scrubs, 29-year-old Ryan L. Stamm made his first court appearance via video Thursday. Stamm is accused of killing Michael Dickey, 33.

Clase told Stamm that Indiana law prohibits bond for anyone charged with murder; therefore, he was not given bond.

He then asked if Stamm planned to hire his own defense attorney. Stamm echoed his parents in telling the magistrate that he cannot afford an attorney. Clase found Stamm is eligible for a public defender, and gave Stamm and his new attorney 60 days to file court paperwork.

According to police reports, Pendleton resident Dickey told officers that Stamm had shot him.

Officers arrested Stamm after a nine-mile chase early Sunday shortly after Dickey died with three gunshot wounds at Wishard Hospital in Indianapolis.

Stamm has been charged with murder, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness and possession of a handgun without a license. He faces up to 79 years in prison and up to $30,000 in fines.
