Police: Elwood woman killed in Sunday crash

---- — FISHERS — Police have confirmed the identity of a 21-year-old Elwood woman who was killed in an accident early Sunday morning.

According to a press release from the Fishers Police Department, Hannah E. Fernung was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2009 Ford Fusion she was driving left the roadway, flipped and struck a tree on Interstate 69. The passenger in the vehicle, 21-year-old Jose M. Victoriano-Garcia, of Cicero, was injured and taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Witnesses told police the Fusion was traveling northbound on the interstate near the 204 mile marker at about 2 a.m. when Fernung appeared to lose control of the vehicle, which hit a tree on the east side of the interstate.

The Fishers Police Department Crash Team was called to the scene. Officers collected evidence and will reconstruct the crash. The northbound lanes of Interstate 69, between 96th and 116th streets, were closed for three hours while officers conducted their investigation. Indiana State Police Troopers assisted with the investigation.

Paramedics and the Fishers Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
