---- — ANDERSON — Two adults and three children were hospitalized on Monday morning after a two-car accident west of the city.

According to a press release from the Madison County Sheriff's Department, a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle, driven by 29-year-old Valerie R. Webb of Anderson, rear-ended a 2005 Jeep Liberty driven by 40-year-old Suzanne R. Cohen of Anderson about 8:30 a.m. on County Road 100 West, just south of the intersection with County Road 600 North. The Jeep also carried three children ages 7, 8 and 9.

According to the report, both vehicles were traveling north on 100 West. The Jeep came to a stop in traffic and was rear-ended by the Beetle, which was thrown across the roadway and struck a utility pole on the southwest corner of the intersection. The Jeep was pushed off the east side of the roadway and overturned onto the driver's side.

After the accident, Webb complained of pain to the chest and Cohen complained of dizziness. Two of the children suffered mouth injuries, while the third suffered a head contusion and complained of pain to his abdomen. All five were transported to Community Hospital in Anderson.
