ANDERSON, Ind. — A man was arrested Wednesday after a two-month investigation into an alleged rape which happened in 2010.
Benjamin Crose, 23, of Anderson, faces charges of rape and sexual misconduct with a minor after he reportedly admitted to police he had sex with an underage girl when he was 21. As of Thursday night, Crose was still being held in Madison County Jail on $20,000 bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit of the investigation, police began suspecting Crose on June 17 when the victim came forward with her mother and told detectives she was raped by Crose sometime between October and December of 2010, when she was a minor and Crose was 21. The affidavit didn’t include the girl’s date of birth or her exact age at the time of the attack.
She told detectives that one night while Crose was staying at her family’s home in Frankton, he entered her room, fought off her attempts to stop him with a knife and raped her.
On July 22, about a month after the interview with the victim, police talked to Crose, who initially denied having any kind of sexual contact with the victim. After an extensive interview with a detective, Crose eventually said he had sex with the victim, but it was consensual.
State police issued a warrant for Crose’s arrest two days later and he was taken into custody on Wednesday. Investigators are working on determining a possible match of a mouth swab of Crose and a DNA sample from the victim’s mattress that was allegedly left at the time of the attack. The probable cause affidavit didn’t indicate whether the results of that test are complete.
Crose was sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to a criminal conversion charge in 2011.
