Three injured in home invasion

Neighbor says she is frightened by the incident

ANDERSON, Ind. —

Ida Akin said a home invasion and attack on three people who live next door to her was a frightening experience.

“My son heard them screaming next door and then our neighbor came over and had us call the cops,” Akin said.

Akin, who lives with her 73-year-old father, was at home when the home invasion occurred Monday. She said a man, covered in blood, banged on her front door seeking help after the incident.

Chad Boynton, a spokesman for the Anderson Police Department, said that at 10:18 a.m. two men entered a home in the 1900 block of Fletcher Avenue by force through a rear entrance and demanded money from the victims. One of the men was armed with a handgun.

A woman inside the home was struck in the back of the head with the gun, Boynton said, and two male residents were also assaulted. The woman was taken to the hospital where she received stitches for her injury and the men refused treatment.

Police say the intruders left the house with an undisclosed amount of cash in a silver Grand Prix.

“We are still investigating if drugs were involved or a participating factor,” Boynton said.

Akin said she had watched a young woman with blond hair walk up to her neighbor's home prior to the robbery and minutes later she witnessed a silver car pull away from the home.

Anderson police say the blonde, who they described in her 30s, left with the intruders.

“We do know who she is, but we are not releasing her name,” Boynton said. “We are still making the determination if she was a victim or what her role was in the incident.”

Police say the first intruder was described as being 6 feet 2 inches to 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing about 240 to 280 pounds and in his 30s. The second man was between 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 160 to 170 pounds and in his 20s. Both men were wearing dark-hooded sweatshirts.

Late Monday afternoon, Akin said she was still rattled by the experience and was keeping her doors chained and locked.

“It’s all nuts, I just wish they would all move away,” she said. “My dad lives with me and I babysit my grandkids. This all just happened too close to my home.”
