APD: Alcohol believed to be factor in serious crash

ANDERSON, Ind. — Anderson police are still investigating an accident that seriously injured three Sunday night, but believe alcohol may have been a factor.

According to the Anderson Police Department, Gary Gore, 51, of Frankton, was driving south on Raible Avenue in a 2004 Ford pickup truck when he was struck by a 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by John Ent, 53, of Anderson. Riding with Ent was Roxanna Savelle-Brown, 51, of Anderson.

Anderson investigators said Ent’s blood alcohol content level tested at 0.12. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08.

No arrest was made, however, because he was injured in the collision, police said.

The exact cause of the 10:10 p.m. crash remains under investigation, but police believe it was caused when Ent, traveling eastbound on Moss Island Road, failed to yield the right of way to Gore.

According to police, Savelle-Brown was ejected from the vehicle and suffered severe head trauma. She was transported by ambulance to Community Hospital of Anderson before being airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where she remains in serious condition.

Gore, who was driving an Anderson Community School Corp. vehicle, was transported to St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital after complaining of pain. Superintendent Felix Chow said he’d received word that Gore was OK and had been released.

He noted that ACS employees are allowed to take vehicles home after work and that Gore, a member of the maintenance crew, was on call and responding to a sensor alarm at Anderson Elementary when the accident occurred.

Police said Ent had to be extricated from his truck and was transported to Community Hospital with more serious injuries.

Both Ent and Gore were reportedly wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
