Police: Second armed bank robbery suspect at large

One man arrested day after armed holdup

ANDERSON — Police are still searching for the second suspect in connection with a Monday armed robbery.

Edwin Le’Anthony Ricard, 18, of Anderson, was still at large Tuesday night. He is believed to be armed and should be considered dangerous, according to Anderson Police Department spokesman Joel Sandefur in a press release.

Ricard’s alleged accomplice, Gerald Lamont Reed, 23, of Anderson, was arrested Tuesday in the 2700 block of West 18th Street by Anderson police detectives on the charge of robbery, a Class A felony. He is accused of being involved in the robbery of the First Merchants Bank, 2825 Nichol Ave., about 10:40 a.m. Monday.

Two masked men reportedly walked into the bank about 10:40 a.m. and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after a bank employee was struck in the head with a gun. The teller was treated for minor injuries, police said Monday.

Late Tuesday, Sandefur said there was no update to the investigation. He said if anyone knows of Ricard’s whereabouts or sees him, they are encouraged to call police at 648-6732.

According to the release, detectives were able to identify both Reed and Ricard as the two men who robbed the bank thanks to numerous eyewitness accounts. Most of the money stolen during the robbery is believed to have been recovered during the investigation along with the blue Ford Taurus that was used to get away after the robbery, Sandefur said.

Ricard is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
