One driver seriously injured in Wednesday head-on collision

INGALLS — One of the drivers in a head-on collision on Wednesday suffered severe injuries and is still in the hospital.

According to a press release from Madison County Sheriff Ron Richardson, Scott E. Hamilton, 42, of Ingalls, suffered a severe chest injury, broken ribs and sternum and a fractured right leg after the 2003 Honda Odyssey he was driving collided head-on with a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

The accident happened about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Indiana 67 just south of Ingalls near the Madison-Hancock county border. The northbound Trailblazer, driven by Michael Wallace, 53, of Anderson, crossed the center line for a yet unknown reason and struck the southbound Odyssey, causing heavy front-end damage to both vehicles. Wallace refused medical treatment at the scene, and Hamilton was transported by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

Indiana 67 was closed while rescue crews responded and cleaned up the scene. Fortville and Hancock County police initially responded and contacted Madison County deputies after arriving. Ingalls police and fire departments and Madison County Emergency Management also assisted at the scene. Richardson said the accident is still under investigation.
