PENDLETON — A visitor at the Pendleton Correctional Facility was arrested Thursday on accusations she trafficked drugs to an inmate.
Cherkeeta M. Bacon, 25, of Indianapolis, faces preliminary charges of trafficking with an inmate, a Class C felony, and a Class A misdemeanor, as investigators work to determine what substance she allegedly brought to the prison.
According to a press release from PCF spokesman Neil Potter, Bacon came to the prison with the contraband allegedly concealed in a body cavity and passed it to inmate Floyd Tewell during a visit. Tewell allegedly swallowed the substance, believed to be a drug, before prison staff could reach him. The staff found a piece of latex glove on Tewell that they believe held the substance.
Tewell told prison officials that the substance was tobacco. He was admitted to the facility's health care center for observation after the incident to determine what the substance was.
Tewell is serving a life sentence for kidnapping and was sentenced in Marion County in 1974.
As of Friday night, Bacon was still housed in Madison County Jail on $20,000 bond.
